What makes wheels interchangeable

Matching the bolt pattern is only the first check. Wheels also have to clear the brakes, sit at a safe offset, and carry the vehicle load.

Bolt pattern
The number of lugs and the circle they sit on, such as 5x120. Two wheels with the same pattern can still differ in offset, bore, or brake clearance.
Center bore
The hole in the middle of the wheel. It should match the hub, or use a hub-centric ring made for that difference. A smaller bore will not fit over the hub.
Offset
Offset sets how far the wheel sits in or out. The ranges on this page combine different years and are not one exact vehicle.
Wheel diameter and width
Diameter and width change the tire that fits and the clearance to suspension, fenders, and brakes.
Brake clearance
A wheel can share the bolt pattern and still hit the caliper. Check the wheel against the brakes on that exact vehicle.
Load rating
The wheel and tire must be rated for the load the vehicle places on them.
Lug hardware and seat type
Lug nuts or bolts have to match the thread and the seat shape in the wheel. The thread size for a specific model is on its wheel page when it is recorded.
