There’s an optional turbo-4 1.6-liter engine available for the LX. The former trims run on a 6-speed automatic transmission which allows the 2.4 to generate its peak torque at 4,000 rpm. While this might not excite speed fanatics, it offers a smooth drive.

The optional 1.6-liter LX comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which allows the engine to churn 195 lb-ft of torque and 178 hp. Its performance is more responsive compared to the 2.4, and also provides great fuel economy (30 mpg). Its gearing does, however, fall behind when compared to that of competing models made by Ford and Volkswagen.

The Optima SX provides more fun when driving. Its 2.0-liter turbo 4 engine generates 260 lb-ft of torque and 245 hp at just 1,350 rpm. The 6-speed automatic transmission allows for granular control, hence, helping drivers decide on what gear to use. Downshifts are quick and responsive. There’s an uplifting vibration that comes with the SX, probably due to the engine, which drivers might appreciate.

The new 2018 Kia Optima comes with improved suspension. It retains the MacPherson strut at the front while the rear comes multi-linked. The springs also come cushier with revised bushings at the front. These, however, don’t perform that well on fussy pavements.

The Kia Optima has always provided great value to consumers. The current generation takes things a little higher by providing drivers with the latest luxury features and driving aids. The price is also competitive for a midsize sedan. Added on top of these are a solid warranty and a host of standard features that make the Optima a tough competitor as Camry and Accord get redesigned.
