Do you want to earn a few bragging rights? It's simple. Simply test your Buick Regal accelerations time, of course, in a hands-free as well as fully automated way. What's more, post the Regal 0-60 time to your leaderboard.

The leaderboard will feature accuracy to the millisecond and display your position in comparison to other users in real time. Also, it'll save for you lots of acceleration times from various models.

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback is a model that improves on the first Regal sedans ever built. It spots a hatchback that gives it a coupe-like appearance, something we see in German brands such as the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A7. The new model packs more cargo area than its predecessor and is sleeker. With the seats folded, you get 60.7 cubic feet – more cargo area than you’d find in the Envision compact SUV.

The all-wheel-drive Regal comes with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 295 pound-feet of torque and 250 horsepower. With the front-wheel-drive, buyers get 260 pound-feet of torque channeled through a 9-speed automatic transmission. The AWD variant powers the vehicle via an 8-speed-automatic transmission.

The Buick Regal gets from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The transmission is precise and responsive. The car seems to pump the right amount of power when needed. There are no modes. Instead, drivers get a fine-tuned powertrain that delivers in all conditions. The AWD system powers the front most of the time. Half of the power is, however, sent to the rear whenever needed. There’s also a twin-clutch at the rear that balances power between the rear wheels to improve on traction.

The steering and chassis are quite responsive. Minimal action if none at all is delivered to the driver. The suspension and 18-inch wheels absorb bumps well. The Regal Sportback trim features a MacPherson front suspension and 4-linked independent rear suspension. The GS and TourX trims are 5-linked.

The Sportback isn’t as sporty but proves fun to drive. The Regal TourX behaves only a little softer due to its taller sidewalls. The traction control comes with no off-road modes as seen in rival models. There’s also a lack of 4-wheeling capability.

The GS trim features a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 282 pound-feet of torque and 310 horsepower. With a more massive package that slices off a little of the Regal’s acceleration, the car weighs 3,796 pounds.

There are no shift paddles in the Regal. The transmission is programmed to change between Sport and GS drive modes. The setup is highly advanced – even better than what you find in most GM SUVs. On the road, tire noises are reduced. The ride is crisp and fluid due to the constant-adjusting dampers.

The Regal Sportback exterior features styling similar to that of the Nissan Altima and Honda Accord. The roof curves a little more than what we see in the Honda offering more cargo space and passenger space in the second row. The roof is lined with a chrome trim that covers the windows too. The front grille is borrowed from the Avenir Concept that debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The Buick crest is large and has wings emanating from it. The corners feature air inlets that have fog lights in pricier models. The rear is simple and neat. The LED taillight blend well with the lip spoiler.

The GS is more aggressive and boasts of front air inlets that enhance its mean look, 19-inch wheels, a rear decklid spoiler, air dams and ground effects along the sides. The TourX adds an extended roof and 3.4 inches to its length. It’s also lower and cladded around the wheels.

The interior design is attractive. Lines are flowing along the dash through the center console all the way to the doors. The look lightens up where colors contrast. At the center dash sits either a 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen while higher trims get a digital driver infotainment system.

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback differentiates itself from its predecessor by having a new liftback-like design. It’s more of a hatchback than a sports sedan. The price matches what it offers. The Preferred trim comes with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and opens doors to extra options unavailable in the Base model. Bluetooth, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Android and Apple integration add to its utility.
