Do you want to earn a few bragging rights? It's simple. Simply test your Toyota Camry Solara accelerations time, of course, in a hands-free as well as fully automated way. What's more, post the Camry Solara 0-60 time to your leaderboard.
The leaderboard will feature accuracy to the millisecond and display your position in comparison to other users in real time. Also, it'll save for you lots of acceleration times from various models.
The first Toyota Camry Solara graced our showrooms in 1998. Since then, a lot has changed. The current Solara features updated looks, better handling, and more space. The 2004 model borrows about half of its mechanics from the Camry. Despite this, the Solara still comes with a better 3.3-liter V6 engine that is similar to the one found in the Lexus RX330. The usual 3.0-liter V6 Camry engine isn’t used here.
The 3.3 generates about 225 horsepower and 212 pound-feet of torque. This is 27 horses and 28 torques more than what the 3.0 produces. The standard engine for the Base Solara is a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that generates about 158 pound-feet of torque and 157 horsepower. According to majority of reviewers, the 4-cylinder engine isn’t capable of handling the weight of the 2008 Solara. The V6 has also been accused of having a sluggish auto transmission. The 4-cylinder is available with either a 5-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. Both transmissions drive the front wheels. The V6 comes with the 5-speed as standard. According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2.4-liter is robust and rapid for its size. The V6 is standard on all convertible trims and is optional on the Solara coupe.
According to Edmunds, the V6 responds rapidly upon acceleration. It performs well in the coupe but gets detracted by the transmission’s slow response in the heavier convertible. The 4-cylinder Solara coupe performs even worse. It is built for less aggressive drivers as it is quiet and fuel-efficient. It features average merging and passing power but is no performer. The 2008 Solara convertibles and coupes do not seem to have benefitted from the 2007 Camry transmission and engine upgrades.
The acceleration, however, is quite responsive and experiences no delays. Over 6,755 miles, the V6 is rated at 20.7 mpg while the Sport V6 coupe averages 19.7 mpg. The exterior of the 2008 Toyota Camry Solara is dated and droopy. The interior, nevertheless, offers a sight for sore eyes.
The convertible Solara comes with a cloth top and is 2 inches taller than the coupe. Both models are quite aged in their exterior. The deck at the rear is saggy. There’s, however, a unique rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 6-piece body kit. The 2008 model now comes with a squared front styling that follows in the footsteps of the 2007 Lexus ES350 and LED taillights in all trims. Windows are narrow and are lined with a curvy beltline. The doors are heavy and long.
The center console features intuitive functions and remains unchanged from the previous model. Gauges, ventilation and audio controls are marked. Satin and metallic finishes bend well with the high-quality plastic to provide an upscale and distinctive appearance. The Toyota Camry Solara isn’t the best choice for a sport-oriented convertible or coupe. Buyers may want to wait until Toyota upgrades overall features such as a new retractable hardtop. All in all, the car does combine comfort, value, and quality for consumers.
