The Lincoln MKS is a luxury sedan which connotes the brand’s first attempt at gaining back some territory. The brand has been lagging behind for a while. It has been struggling to keep up with rivals as other manufacturers combine the latest technology and modern styling with better handling. It’s now comfortable and spacious, offering an AWD option that comes with extra standard and optional features.

The MKS features the same powertrain and underpinnings found in the Ford Taurus. For a while, this limited its appeal as its interior attributes and driving character made it feel like a pimped Ford than a real luxury sedan. In 2013, it received a significant upgrade which saw it improve quite well. The first Lincoln MKS featured a 3.7-liter, 252-hp V6 that came as standard. It was mounted on a 6-speed-automatic transmission with the underpinning including an independent suspension. Despite receiving many accolades from reviewers, the MKS falls behind when compared to its German rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series.

The handling could be better. It boasts of a fast straight-line performance which isn’t that exciting. The 2010 MKS comes with a turbocharger that gives it more traction. The twin-turbo, 365-hp, EcoBoost V6 was derived from the Ford Taurus SHO and can churn up to 355 horsepower. It’s coupled with a 6-speed-automatic transmission aligned with firmer suspensions.

Top speed is at 135 mph. The car can get from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Fuel economy estimates are at 16/22 mpg. Non-turbo versions boast a 17/25 mpg rating. Passengers riding in the MKS enjoy space and comfort while being surrounded by luxurious finishes. The car emanates a fancy feeling due to its metallic trim, glows of white lighting and wood lining. There’s plenty of leg room in the rear and extra comfort for front-seat passengers. The headrests are positioned a little more towards the front – something that might bother some consumers.

The MKS features plenty of safety kits, including anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction and curtain airbags to the side and front. Other standard features include front parking sensors and a rearview camera. Active park assist and adaptive cruise control are optional. The active park assists feature helps the driver to park the car while he/she controls the brakes and gas. Blind-spot monitors are also available in the MKS.

The Base FWD MKS features Bluetooth, ventilated front seats, Ford’s SYNC voice-activation system and satellite radio. The EcoBoost trim comes with push-button start, a MyKey system for speed-limit and radio-volume programming, active park assist, 19-inch wheels, and other features.

Optional features include wood trims, adaptive cruise control, THX-certified audio, 20-inch wheels, an EcoBoost appearance package, and DVD navigation. The 2013 Lincoln MKS came with major upgrades that include suspension enhancements, engine upgrades, more luxurious features, an overall revised styling, and extra equipment. Both trims now feature a leather upholstery as standard, Wi-Fi capability and a power-adjustable steering wheel. Other options include a 16-speaker stereo, heated rear seats, an automatic parallel-parking system, lean-departure warning, and a rearview camera.
