Do you want to earn a few bragging rights? It's simple. Simply test your Lincoln LS accelerations time, of course, in a hands-free as well as fully automated way. What's more, post the LS 0-60 time to your leaderboard.

The leaderboard will feature accuracy to the millisecond and display your position in comparison to other users in real time. Also, it'll save for you lots of acceleration times from various models.

The Lincoln LS debuted with high technology and looked that saw it scoop a spot as one of the best premium midsize sedans for the European market. Some referred to it as a spacious BMW 5 that consumers could get at the cost of a 3 Series.

It was available with either a V6 or V8 engine. This was configured to a rear-wheel-drive system and fine-tuned suspensions. Its performance on the road was good. But, with time, the appeal faded as other manufacturers introduced better, more competent, luxurious entry-level sedans. Production of the LS finally halted in 2006.

Today, the Lincoln LS isn’t as prestigious and refined as it used to be. It, however, offers an excellent option for a used luxury sports sedan. The price is relatively lower compared to its European rivals and so are its maintenance costs.

The powertrain is similar to what you’ll find in the Jaguar S-Type. The 3.0-liter V6 variant churns 232 horsepower while the 3.9-liter V8 makes 280 horses. The former boasts better fuel economy. Both power the rear wheels through a standard 5-speed-automatic transmission. The LS V8 gets from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds.

Other standard features for both variants include a power tilt-and-telescoping steering, ABS, alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and fog lights. The navigation and other upscale features were included in the later models.

The V8 trim is smooth and accelerates well. It offers a compliant and comfortable ride, especially when handled as a touring sedan. The interior is roomy with adequate space for adults. The interior lacks in quality and storage space.

Before buying a used Lincoln LS, it is advisable to carry out a test drive. Earlier models had a troublesome automatic transmission that received a lot of complaints from consumers. Standard features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, and front-side airbags. The Advance Talk stability control comes as an option. The LSE adds fog lamps, a wood-trimmed dashboard, 17-inch 7-spoke aluminum wheels, and aggressive styling cues.

The last model year saw the Lincoln LS get an overhaul to its automatic transmission. It, however, did not solve much. Ford later decided to do away with the system. Other changes included a tuned steering wheel, improved interior materials, more storage, and retuned suspensions. New features included side curtain airbags, Satellite radio, a THX sound system and navigation. For the best Lincoln LS, go for a 2003 model.

Long gone are the days when people dreamt of owning a Chrysler, Lincoln or Cadillac. These generations are probably in their last days. The market today is filled with better-performing Japanese and European models. It was a relief, however, for some of the old folks when the Lincoln LS was introduced in 1999 and 2000. This was a beacon of hope as most of the older luxurious brands had long fallen.
