Introduction

People buy cars either because they need them or they want them. The people with more than enough money can buy whatever car pleases their fancy. In most cases the classier and faster the vehicle, the better. They crave the adrenaline rush that comes with driving a fast car and seeing objects that they passed by in your rearview mirror.

When launching the Jaguar F Type, the hard top convertibles came first. The launch was done in America considering they are the biggest market for Jaguar cars. In 2014, the coupe version of this model was launched, and it looked more like part of the E type series than the f series.

In 2017, the car got some upgrades, these mainly being a change in the body and new engines. However, to the shock of many, the engines were downgraded to 2.0 four-cylinder turbo. Despite the downsizing made with the engines, with about £50,000 you can buy a decent F Type.

Engines and the 0-60

So mostly, with the jaguar f type, you have two main engine types to choose from. These are the V6 and V8 engines. The supercharged V6 engines come with 355bhp, 375bhp and 395bhp, and two round central exhausts. The 2 cylinder exhausts come in handy because they can help you visually differentiate them from the 4 cylinder engine with the central pipe.

Now, the V8 engines are easy to spot because the car will have two exhaust pipes on each side of the bumper. Here, you can choose between getting the 542bhp, which comes in the F Type R and the 567bhp F Type in the SVR. These are all-wheel drive only, which is a pretty good thing because it allows you to tap more power from the engines that were possible with the RWD V8 F-type. Another exciting thing is that the SVR f type is the first Jaguar to reach200mph since the XJ220.
The gearboxes come in two varieties. You can get the automatic 8 speed, which is the standard option or opt for the six-speed manual option that comes with the VG. When looking at transmission, most cars have the rear drive. However, the supercharged V6 and V8 engines offer you all-wheel drive.

Looking at it the V8 options probably seem better than the V6’s. But when driving, you might notice that the V6’s a bit more precise on the road. Additionally, the more powerful version comes with proper mechanical differentiation. More so, their four-cylinder engines are reliable. However, they are not as glamorous as the V8’s
The F-Type you choose is dependent on your how much you want to spend, meaning that your budget directly affects the driving experience you will get.  If you feel like rewarding yourself, then an all-wheel-drive V8 is the way to go. The SVR is classy and sporty, or you can get the R which is similar to the SVR but without the wing.

Exterior and Interior

The F Type is a beautiful car, and the newer models have hints of both the E Type and the XK8 are evident in its sleek body. It has a tall front which curves back but does not reach the fenders. This design compliments its headlights. The Jag has a truncated tail which goes well with its long back hood. The coupes in these series are hatchbacks, while the convertibles come with trunk lids. Something that stands out with the convertibles is that the tops come in a variety of shades.

There is a definite split between the driver and passenger section and built-in hand grips have been installed for the passenger. Looking at the cabin, you will see carbon fibre and aluminium accents, instead of the standard wood fittings common to Jaguars.  The infotainment system includes a 10-inch screen which is an upgrade from the 2018 model. A feature that makes the 2018 model superior to its predecessors is the streamlined navigation interface. A general sweep of the car will show you a classy sports car which finds a way to balance elegance with functionality.

Verdict

Indulgent, elegant and precise are some of the first words we can use to describe this car. However, even though it is not practical for running everyday errands, it is a joy to drive. It can hold its own on the road regarding power and of course beauty.
