Nissan launched its luxury Infiniti division in 1989. A polarizing ad and two special models were the first steps the Japanese automaker took to introduce to the world its own trail of performance, style, and luxury. A good example of Nissan’s corporate philosophy can be seen in the new rear-wheeled Infiniti G37.

It comes in three forms: a convertible, sedan or sports coupe. The luxury sports sedan and coupe segments have always been dominated by elite brands. To prepare fans for the G37, Nissan had it driven on test circuits across Europe. Germany’s Nürburgring was not left behind on the action. An attractive price, an athletic chassis, unique technological features and attractive interiors make the G37 a qualified competitor amongst those of its class.

The Infiniti G37 comes with a rather loud and harsh 3.7-liter V6 engine. Despite not being capable of providing smooth rides like BMW’s outstanding turbocharged V6, it comes with enough power for performance enthusiasts. The Base G25’s V6 is a 2.5-liter that can churn 218 hp. It, however, lacks the performance kick experienced in other luxurious models.

Both vehicles (G25 and G37) come with a 7-speed automatic transmission that is somewhat indecisive in tender driving. It snaps during hard acceleration to provide a smooth ride. This could be due to the smart throttle blip and magnesium paddle-shifters that give more satisfaction. The 6-speed manual transmission exhibits similar performance.

Without considering price, the Infiniti G-series provides possibly the best handling for a sports sedan. The brakes are quick to respond on rough surfaces while the suspension does not fluster. The rapid ratio system loads evenly, unwinds flawlessly and transmits ground feedback to the driver – exactly how a sports sedan should perform.

All trims come with a neat shape, an aggressively contoured look, and clean sheet metals. The G25 differentiates itself from the G37 by having badging distinctions and other subtle features. The departure from the common lined sheet metal observed in other models helps to give the G-series a sporty and coupe-like profile.

On the inside, the cockpit features more sporty features that are unique to the Infiniti. The seating position is lowered while the console is fitted lowly between the bucket seats. The infotainment system sits from top to center, allowing better control of the climate and audio features using controls fixated beneath it. An instrument panel cluster is also available. It includes large and sporty dials sitting inside.

The G25 comes with a novel Edition Package that features a sportier appearance. The black grille adds to other features to distinguish its looks. There are also numerous color combinations for other trims within the production line.

Those hoping to get a sedan, convertible or coupe will be greatly impressed by the G37’s versatility. All three models come with two trims. The coupe and sedan fans can pick either the Base Journey or the higher Sport. An important thing to note is that prices for either trim for most models vary widely. However, the Infiniti G37 hosts worthy lower trim choices for buyers hoping to get an entry-level luxury vehicle. Higher trims are viable options for those looking for a higher-end luxury car.
