This is because it was noted that sales of this car had dipped considerably, especially compared to its competitors and sadly this has been happening since 2012.
The Interior and Exterior of the Car

The Dodge Dart bears many similarities to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, especially regarding structure, suspension, and steering. However, the Dodge is roomier than the Giulietta, and its other competitors in the small and compact automobile category. If you are comparing these cars concerning size, then the Jetta by Volkswagen is its closest competitor. Its size is a bonus because you do not end up feeling cramped or claustrophobic when driving around town.

The Dodge Dart, compared to previous Dodge models, ranks higher when looking at feature content and the mechanical sophistication. It also offers sharp steering and is not hard to handle. It also gets extra points for having considerable trunk space (keeping in mind that it is considered a small car), a variety of electronic features which are easy to use and also adequate cabin's space. While harping on about the excellent features this car offers, you cannot overlook the fact that the front seat area is quite small. This means that the back seat passengers will be comfortable, but the people at the front not so much.

Engine

The first Dodge Dart vehicles came with 160-horsepower, 2.0-liter non-turbocharged engines, with the choice of getting an automatic or manual transmission. With these models, power was the main problem with the engines. During testing, it was noted that with the manual transmission the 2liter car took 9.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60mph.
Other models of the car came with 160 horsepower 1.4 liters, turbocharged engines. Although these had almost similar specs, they hit the 60 mph mark in 8.3 seconds with manual transmissions. When tried with dual-clutch automatic transmission they accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds.

Between 2013 and 2014 Dodge improved their engines and were offering a 184 horsepower engine with a 2.4-liter capacity in some of their vehicles, mainly the GT and SXT. This engine with an automatic transmission moved from 0 to 60mph in 8.6 seconds. The problem remained that this car still guzzled too much fuel considering its compact size.

The takeaway

The fact that the Dodge dart model was a small car that seemed big, and offered significant leg room and comfort to the people sitting in the back seat, was one thing working in its favor. The fact that it had the Uconnect stereo interface was another pocitive moment. However, even with these features, it is a bit difficult to ignore the reality - sitting in the front seats was uncomfortable. 

Additionally, the engine's fuel consumption was on the higher side. So that being said, although it is sad that the Dodge Dart model is discontinued after 2016, it is not very shocking news.
