Introduction

The Audi A6 series of cars consist of vehicles such as the S6, S8, S3, and S4. The S6 models rank above the S3 and S4 sedans but falls below the four-door S7 and S8 models. It made an appearance in the market in 1995, sporting a 227 hp turbocharged 2.2l 1-5 rated engine. The engine boasted 240 lb-ft of torque and a five-speed manual transmission. You also had the option of choosing a 4.2 L V8 engine, which gave you 280hp and a four-speed automatic transmission.

The current version of the car comes with an upgrade in its general style, and the engine was also tuned up to generate 450 hp. The torque has not changed much, as it is currently at 406 lb-ft. During our 2016 review, after taking the car on a drive in the valleys around Dresden, we noted that the S6 is still at the top of its game. It offers stellar performance while still maintaining its luxurious look. The sedan was able to pull off 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. The interiors were well done with the back seat being spacious enough to seat three adults. The front of the cabin was also done to maximize both comfort and functionality.

This car is a perfect combination of luxury and power. With its vast proportions and beautifully curved body and its powerful engines, anyone driving it will have fun.

0-60 and Engine specs

Considering the size of the car itself, the only powerful engine that could have been used is the V8. The 4.0-liter V8 engine, placed far back in the engine bay of the Audi S6 does not look like much at first glimpse, but that small thing is quite powerful. It boasts 450 hsp and 406 lb-ft of torque, which together get this car from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, as previously mentioned. This in itself is not small feet and helps put the S6 toe to toe with its rivals like the BMW M550iXdrive, and the Mercedes AMG E43. According to our evaluation, these specs give the car an 8/10 rating performance wise.

The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission works well with the all-wheel-drive aspect of the car. The combination of these features enables the vehicle to stay grounded and also allows for seamless gear shifts. The all-wheel aspect of the car ups the traction which ensures that you do not slip on wet roads. So basically, you can drive this car in any weather, and your passengers will be comfortable owing to the superior suspension.

The sports rear differential in the S6 is similar to that in the S4 and serves the same purpose of power control. However, the S6 has a dynamic steering feature which makes us a bit uncomfortable. Ideally, we would prefer to have only the rear differential, because dynamic steering unpredictably alters the speed. The combination of these features makes the handling precise, but at the same time, you feel some disconnect between the car and the road.

Exterior and interior features

The 2018 version of the A6 does not look that much different from its predecessors. Although it has some sleek lines that point to its amazing speeds, some may call it slightly plain looking. We prefer the term low key. If you are looking for something flawless rather than just beautiful, then the S7 might be a better choice for you.
The S6 has a lean muscular look, with creases under the windows which you only see in direct sunlight. The front hood is somewhat trapezoidal, while the back has quad-tipped exhaust pods and a small diffuser.

The interior features of the car have not changed much, and the MMI infotainment systems may be an easy give away to that fact. The minimalist dashboard and high-quality materials used in the cabin also hint towards is current age.

Verdict

The S6 is the perfect choice if you want something fast, but are not very keen on getting a two-door sports car. It allows you to ferry people around in the back seat, without them noticing that you got 60 mph in 4 seconds.
